Body Awareness Laboratory
Hello and Welcome to BAL. I am Mariana Romero, and I am so happy that you found me here!
I live on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty region 7 and Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, in the City of Calgary and I was born in the ancient capital of the Aztec empire “Tenochtitlán” called nowadays Mexico City.
I am glad to offer BAL to artists from different disciplines to share a common place which is the body movement and its expression. We all share the same emotions and move through the same rhythms. As a newcomer artist looking to develop professional relationships and as an actress nurturing my creative process, BAL is a place where I can feel free and get inspired by others.
I AM A MOVEMENT PASSIONATE. During my more than ten years of career as an actress, manager, and theater teacher; my friends, colleagues, students, family, teachers, and daily clients have called me a “mover”, what does this mean? They see me as someone who inspires and invites them to move.
I enjoy not only my movement but also sharing with others the joy of being in your own body, that moment when you can fully experience yourself and your place in the world.
A fundamental aspect for the body to move freely and creatively is to feel safe and accepted.
One of the fundamentals aims for the body to move spontaneously and ingeniously is to feel safe and accepted. I love to contribute to my society by creating spaces where people feel that way and discover through rhythmic movement and theater-making, a safe place to express what is under their skin, an inward world we all need to acknowledge and share.
